mTLD Services Support .Mobi Web-Sites

Making a mobile web-site for small companies might turn out to be too expensive, though .mobi site in many cases proves to be really beneficial. The new .Mobi top-level domain seems to be a good alternative. The domain helps to develop and signify a site created for access via mobile devices. The goal of the service is to make mobile web easier and faster to access.

A lot o companies has already benefited from the usage of their .mobi site. That’s the reason why using the service is at least worth trying. The mobile Top Level Domain Ltd (mTLD) claims that 475.000 .mobi domains use the mobile web for live content offers.

mTLD provides high-quality practices, style samples, layouts, a big number of various tools for development and creation of a site. The site includes “how-to” guides for mobile content creation; .mobi Site Builder, a service that helps creating a site; analysis tool that helps test the mobile-readiness of any site: .com, .mobi.

About half a year ago dotMobi sold out a number of “premium names”: ‘Celebs,’ ‘cheaptickets,’ ‘flowers,’ ‘fun,’ ‘gossip,’ ‘hot,’ ‘laugh,’ ‘party,’ ’stockquotes;’ plus a number of “highly desired” ones: ‘airfare,’ ‘areacodes,’ ‘cam,’ ‘casinos,’ ‘creditscore,’ “directions,’ “eat,’ ‘libre,’ ‘loancalculator,’ ‘models,’ ‘newmusic,’ ‘pics,’ ‘pizza,’ realestate’ and ’singles.’

Mobile Web: A lot More Than Ringtones and Images

The whole idea of creating .mobi domains has encountered lots of criticism. Wide Web Consortium (W3C) are among the others who prefer the idea of creating a .com site and optimizing it for mobile devices. In this case the mobile-friendly version are used only when the access to the site is conducted via a mobile phone. W3C claims that .mobi is creating two Internets in some way: one for mobile devices (.mobi) and the other for PCs (.com).

.mobi idea was supported and developed by Microsoft, Nokia, Vodafone and Samsung Electronics. It got the approval from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in 2005. In 2004, however, the idea failed due to the lack of technical details in the application. But as you see the second attempt reached the goal.

Nevertheless the market research company M:Metrics claims that there isn’t a single .mobi site in top 50 mobile-friendly sites.
