Samsung SGH-i320 Review

Samsung’s new Windows Mobile Smartphone – SGH-i320. The first thing that hits you is the keyboard: 37 tiny keys plus the usual six Windows Smartphone soft-keys, Home, Back and Pickup/hang-up. In the centre a dished five-way D-Pad. These together share half of the front of the unit, the rest is reserved for the landscape screen and a big Samsung logo.
The case is made of black plastic accented with silver surrounds to the five-way pad and earpiece. The quality of the plastic is as high as it goes; no flex or creaks when you hold the unit or whilst you’re typing.
On the back: 2 speakers for stereo sound, a 1.3Mp camera with LED flash. On the side are buttons for volume, a configurable ‘Side button’ and a power/lock button. On the right side: 2 very tiny connectors behind individual doors, one for power/USB and one for the supplied headphones.
This is a tri-band GSM phone with EDGE and Bluetooth. It supports the 900/1800 and 1900MHz frequencies.
In SGH-i320 there is 128MB FLASH ROM on board for storage and 64MB RAM for running applications.
There is also a 1.3 megapixel camera on the back with a small flash light above the lens.
Windows Mobile Smartphone comes with an array of its own software for things like diary management, e-mail and Web browsing. To this Samsung adds extras like a WAP browser, the Picsel viewer for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF documents, unit conversion, a stopwatch and voice control.
