Study: UK Employees Connect to Mobile Internet in Toilets

The UK company T-Mobile has conducted a study on the usage of mobile Internet on the island. It turned out that a quarter of UK’s workforce, being deprived of possibility of using PC Internet, are turning to mobile Internet.

The study revealed that the attitude towards the usage of the Internet at work is very strict in the UK:

• 23% of respondents are subject to company policies that prohibited them to use social networking websites
• 11% are deprived of their e-mail
• Some are even not allowed to use Google

The employees found an ultimate decision: mobile Internet. Nearly half of them (48%) use mobile Internet at work to download music and make purchases. The fact that is amazing is the 15% of employees have to hide in toilets to get online.

Still 25% of respondent turned out to be illiterate speaking in terms of mobile web. They are aware that their phone supports Internet service, but they simply don’t know how to use it. They underlined the need to educate the customers on how to take the best advantage of the mobile Internet when they need it most.

Richard Warmsley, Head of Internet on the Move at T-Mobile. says: “T-Mobile believes everyone has the right to access the web - even at work. In today’s broadband era, customers want the full Internet wherever they are, at any time and browse whatever websites they choose.”

Leading social guru, Jenni Trent Hughes, adds: “While the management of office productivity is imperative, cutting off the Internet in its entirety stops employees from using the tools that could help them work more effectively from search engines and newswires to key industry blogs and even social networking sites, which are becoming increasingly important tools for young professionals.”
