The Europeans Like Touch Screen Mobile Devices

The European mobile market has some good new for Apple and handset vendors (including LG and HTC) - the companies that have announced touch screen devices. According to the latest survey conducted by Canalys in France Germany, Italy, Spain and the U.K. among 2.000 mobile users, the users are extremely supportive towards touch screen devices:

• 33% of the respondents said that would prefer a touch screen device since it has a bigger screen compared to other devices
• The desire to have a touch screen device is by 50% higher among the users who are eager to use mobile TV or other similar services
• Still 24% of the respondents said that they don’t want to have huge touch screen devices - they preferred small phones

So the main question is the same: is bigger better? The question is not to be answered. 10% of the respondents were paying for and downloading content on a recurring basis. If the users can’t use their phones they simply won’t downloads the content. Pete Cunningham, Canalys senior analyst, commented: “…If the interface gets in the way people will soon lose interest or choose other platforms to satisfy their needs. More than half of those we surveyed said they disliked having to learn where all the features were when they got a new phone.”

The Mobile industry is steadily moving to ad-funded model - big screen is a must!
