Mobile Games Market is Expected to Hit $9.6 billion by 2011

Gartner1.gifThe global Mobile games market is growing rapidly. It is expected to grow almost 50% in 2007, and by 2011 it is expected to reach $9.6 billion.

Gartner gave a definition of mobile gaming as video games on mobile phones as long as there was some revenue stream—so demos, preloaded and prebundled games were excluded because there is no direct consumer revenue component. Gartner added that even though mobile games are the most expensive mobile services it is the only form of digital gaming available.

Regional Mobile Gaming Forecasts:

  • Asia/Pacific and Japan. The area is expected to reach $1.8 billion in 2007; $4.6 billion - by 2011.
  • Western Europe. Mobile gaming is forecast to grow from $1.5 billion in 2007 to $2 billion in 2011. The majority of the users from this region download games via operatoral sites.
  • North America. The market is expected to grow from $716.9 million in 2007 to $1.7 billion in 2011. Such low revenue rates are explained by the fact that among developed nations the US is the slowest to adopt wireless technologies (by 2006 data revenue accounted only 13% of total mobile telecom service revenue).
