Picasa_Web_Albums.gifHave you ever has a situation like this: you see a great picture and you are eager to know the spot where it has been taken or you have made a great photo yourself and want to show it to your friends, but you

are away from your PC or laptop? There’s a great online album that can help you solve these issues. The new features of Picasa Web Albums are ‘Map My Photos’ which enables you to show exactly where you took the photo. When you show the albums to the friends they can see the location of each shot. It is a perfect way to showcase a memorable touristic route.It works like that: when you create a new album, you fill in the field ‘Place Taken’. Furthermore you can drag-drop the shot onto a map (the service includes in-built Google maps). If you want some samples go here.

But that’s not the only new feature. Picasa Web Album is going mobile. Just imagine having access to thousands of your favourite snapshots without having to carry them around! With the new Mobile service you can connect to your account and look through them or show.

Moreover the mobile version of Picasa Web Albums enables you to track all the latest updates in the albums of your friends and contacts. All you have to do is visit ‘My Favorites’ section and see if some photos have been added. You can comment on the pictures you like or dislike. All the thumbnail photos are automatically re-sized according to the size of your screen. So all you have to do is to have a device with a web browser with a data pin.

Monday, 25.06.2007

Voice_Search.gif

Microsoft tends to be active in the mobile search area.

If you want to find out more and try the app, you can go here (CAB file is only available from mobile devices)

Some comments on the program installation and usage:

  • Uninstall the repvious version of Live Search for Mobile;
  • When you will see a message that offers to download the new dogfood build select no otherwise you will get a non VoiceSearch app;
  • On the first launch you get a message asking to run “;ClientUtilsCEDll.dll”, select YES otherwise you’ll have to reinstall the program;
  • Bluetooth Audio might not work. The only thing that works 100% is the Microsoft Bluetooth Audio Stack on it;
  • TMobile Dash or the HTC Excalibur might not work. It turned out that the device has rather a poor microphone;
  • On Motorola Q or any other phone that comes with a 3rd party text input tool, the tool should be disabled in order not to mess with word selection on the alternates panel;
  • At the moment VoiceSearch can be used on any field that supports text entry;
  • “What” field queries with numbers (e.g. 24 hour fitness, 7-Eleven, etc.) don’t work very well yet;
  • Push to Talk isn’t enabled yet.
