Mobile Video Ads Networks are Growing in Europe

It is generally regarded that European phone technology is way more developed than American. Still the difference in 3G device penetration between the US and Europe is not that big: 16% and 20% accordingly.

One of UK mobile operators - 3 - is singled out for its approach towards mobile adv: its videos are entirely ad-supported (in both pre-roll and post-roll formats). At the same time the other UK operators charge extra for TV series. Some of the huge market players that have already come into the market are Cisco, Microsoft, Intel, and Unilever (the latter is actually experimenting with targeted advertisement i.e. when a antiperspirant ads are to come only to young women).

Compared to other operators, the 3 ads are more expensive based on the audience size. It charges $141 CPM while the average rates are $20 CPM.

The service is not popular with all the users: some 25% were put off by the ad-supported service. As a new entrant in the market, 3 was eager to break mobile business models - most significantly it was the first 3G operator to offer users a flat-rate data service to encourage usage, something that other operators are finally starting to roll out.

At the moment all the major mobile operators with 3G networks are starting to offer video ads as well:  Telecom Italia, T-Mobile, Vodafone.
