Mobile Operators Hinder the Development of Mobile Advertising

Mobile advertising is the next big thing in the Mobile world, but there is a big hindrance in the area. Mobile operators want to promote their own brand above others.

Patricia Leonard, a senior category manager for mobile advertising at T-Mobile, said:

“It’s more important to put our brand forward in front of customers than a third person brand.”

This hinders the possibility of third-party brands and companies to promote their services, and therefore leads to the names of the services that sometimes sound silly.

Besides this, there are a lot of other issues: great diversity of mobile devices, low data speed. Ad agencies are interested in the new horizons, but at the same time they are not yet confident.

Matt Champion, associate director at Mediacom and member of the Mobile Marketing Association, said:

“Ad agencies are forecasting zero revenue [from mobile advertising] as it’s too difficult to predict.”

The advertisers are looking for new markets and areas to sell their product, because the revenues of the traditional ones are constantly decreasing. But mobile advertising is failing to win over the ad dollars. It seems to steal money from Internet spend only.
