Who Else Wants Fast and Cheap Internet with Local Options?
The mobile broadband company Sprint has announced its collaboration with Google. The companies are planning to bring WiMAX mobile Internet users search, interactive communication and social networking. The project is expected to develop and broaden mobile Internet access for single users as well as for organizations and government customers.
Sprint is working on the creation of the worldwide mobile internet network that is designed to bring wireless Internet to mobile devices, thus bring new mobile applications to customers. The collaboration with Google is one of the major points in Sprint’s plans. It will help to build infrastructure under WiMAX network.
Barry West, Mobile broadband president with Sprint, said:
“Google and Sprint will optimize the Internet experience for the digital lifestyle. This collaboration brings what will be the best mobile Internet network together with the leading Internet search company. It allows us to capitalize on the powerful mobility and Internet trends, and create wireless services and applications that take advantage of each company’s history of product development innovation.”
Sprint’s network that features location detection and presence capabilities will be added by Google’s Gmail, Calendar, Talk services. The users of the network will gain access to high-speed Internet with the possibility of a new form of interactive communication, local and multimedia services (music, video, TV etc.).
Dave Girouard, vice president of Google Enterprise, commented:
“Google shares Sprint’s vision for enhancing the consumer’s mobile lifestyle and is focused on greater access to information through a variety of channels. We look forward to working with Sprint to bring to market a rich and compelling broadband experience for WiMAX customers.”
Sprint is planning to provide open standard application programming interfaces in order to create customized products for single users, companies and government customers. The services will be available in a number WiMAX enabled devices (stand-alone modems, connection cards, personal media players, mobile Internet devices, laptop computers, phones and gaming devices). The services are planned to be available in cars for entertainment and navigation.
At the moment the company is working on integrating WiMAX ecosystem into a wide range of devices including portable multi-media and other electronic goods. The test of the services is to take place in Washington DC, Baltimore and Chicago at the end of 2007. The company plans to draw over 100 million users by the end of 2008.
To sum up, Sprint is working on the worldwide network that will enable faster speeds, lower costs and local assistance to the users.
