Top 20 European Mobile Operators

In the second quarter of the year the penetration of mobile access into the European market reached 100%. Although the tempo has slightly decreased, another 2% was added to the total sum. Top 10 biggest mobile operators provide their services to 270 million users, or 40% of the market.

In its turn, top 20 biggest European mobile operators offer their services to the client base of 432 million, which makes 62% of the market. The figure might seem to be really high, but the is constantly reducing, as long as new operators gradually win over the more powerful competitors.

During the second quarter there haven’t been any significant changes in the top 20 European mobile operators. T-Mobile, Telefonica Spain and Vodafone Spain have raised one position up overtaking the nearest competitors.

The mobile operator Turkcell has shown the highest growth rates: it added 1.6 million users and now its network includes 33.8 million.

Still some of the mobile operators have lost their clients, both the companies are from Ukraine. Kyivstar lost 30k users now having the total of 22 million. UMC dropped over million customers and now has a total of 19.81 million.

Generally even picture of the rating, nevertheless, doesn’t fully depict all the tendencies of the market.

As for the US the new rating by J.D. Power and Associates, the top 6 hugest operators are:

• North-East region: T-Mobile
• Mid-Atlantic region: T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless
• South-East region: Alltel, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless
• North-East and North-West Central region: AT&T, T-Mobile, US Cellular and Verizon Wireless
• South-West region: T-Mobile
• West region: T-Mobile
