Download the latest books on Amazon’s Kindle

Amazon.com is not the first company to offer an eBook with a user-friendly display (working according to the E-Ink technology). But it is the first company to introduce a new way of getting books which might open new horizons for the usage of mobile networks.

According to the company, the users of the eBook Kindle (the recommended price - $399) will be able to choose and buy new books from their mobile devices, and download them in less than 1 minute. They can also buy newspapers or subscribe to daily newspapers, magazines and blogs for a monthly fee. The newspapers are delivered immediately, the blogs – several times a day.

In order to ensure the delivery of all these data, Amazons uses the 3G network of the operator Sprint Nextel. Nevertheless, the users of Kindle will never see the bills for the service as it is included into the cost of the content. This extraordinary step might be duplicated by content-providers and mobile operators who look for successful and working schemes of getting money from high-speed networks. Kindle is equipped with a permanent connection to the network EV-DO (Evolution-Data Optimized) by Sprint excluding the cases the user is out of the coverage zone. In this case the application shifts to the slower 1x network by Sprint.

The company mobilePhone, which is specializing in local mobile search solutions and catalogue and reference book advertising, has announced the release of a mobile map solution under the name “liquid MAP”.

The application has been developed for the publishers of catalogues, directory inquiry service and media-companies. According to the company’s representative, the novelty differs from the other products available on the market in that it uses the function of Scaleable Vector Graphics – SVG, inbuilt into Java. It means that mobile interactive maps eventually reached the mass market, because the overwhelming majority of mobile devices support Java.

mobilePhone notes that the solutions like Google or Yahoo maps are created on the base of “heavy” in the respect of traffic images formats which are created on the server and only later are downloaded to a phone, and it leads to heavy traffic consumption.

As “liquid MAP” is take shape on the device directly and only the required meta-information (geometric parameters) is downloaded this cartographic solution consumes up to 10 times less traffic. It is really beneficial for the users who pay for the up- and downloaded bytes.

Moreover, panning and resizing of such maps are up to 10 times faster that bitmap ones. It is connected to the fact that the cartographic information inside the phone shows a bigger territory than the screen can support. When panning or resizing takes place, there is no need for additional data downloading.

The application “liquid MAPs” is a stand-alone mobile map Java application, but it can be integrated in mobilePeople’s white label liquid LOCAL or liquid LOCAL+ search solution

The user can search for organizations or people and browse the results on the maps. Other features include address search, local search and movement indicators (including public transport and pedestrian ways). The application features enhanced users’ functionality, for instance, true total compatibility with maps, presentation of detailed information by clicking on the object (a road, park, building etc.). Moreover, the text is automatically scaled to fit the size of the screen. It means that it doesn’t diffuse if a user resizes the scale of the map.

There is a possibility to install audio advertising in the application. It is screened on a map as a sound shortcut. When a user browses a page with such a shortcut, there plays a short track with the information about the company. An advertiser company can be singled out by an icon. When a user clicks on it he/she is automatically redirected to the page of the advertiser.
