Here is the Quick Way to Use Collins English Dictionary Pro on your Handset

The company English Dictionaries has released the full version of its new application Collins English Dictionary Pro (CED Pro) on the WAP-site in the Internet.

According to the company, it is the first time the British students and teachers have access to the explanatory dictionary of the English language wherever and whenever they need it – in a classroom or in their personal mobile device. The access to the new application is a part of regularly updated subscription package by Collins English Dictionary Pro, the cost of which is 17.61 pounds. The autonomous PC or Mac download is available for 22.49 pounds. The ones who are subscribed to the online/WAP version of the service can gain access to the most contemporary vocabulary, definitions, biographies etc. via any mobile device with the installed WAP-browser.

The Online version features over 6000 dictionary articles, the majority of which are connected with the subjects studied in the UK. The search can be carried out by the celebrities, names of countries, political figures, Mass Media and culture representatives, sportsmen etc

According to the manufacturer, the search engine is very simple to use. Each of 120000 dictionary articles has a link and can be opened with one click. The information can be searched for in different ways including flexible accordance and “wordforms.” CED Pro, illustrating the constant evolution of the English language, is a regularly updated full-quality explanatory dictionary and thesaurus. Over 100 new words are already included into the online and WAP versions which enables average users to have access to the words that have been not yet included into printed versions

Elaine Higgleton, Editorial Director of English Dictionaries, commented:

According to the study conducted by the company J.D. Power and Associates, the users using many functions and mobile services on their devices spend at least $14 more each month than the others who do not “abuse” their phones.

The research under the name “2007 U.S. Wireless Mobile Phone Evaluation Study” was carried out by J.D. Power and Associates and it shoed that those US users who send/receive e-mail ans text messages, take and send shots, download music with their phones pay the average of $77 per month. The average phone bill of the users who do not do the things mentioned above makes around $63.

The users who work with non-voice applications from their mobile devices regularly spend twice as much as those do not use them ($70 and $37 accordingly).

During the research it turned out that Sony Ericsson is the leader in providing additional mobile services reaching 741 points out of 1000. High achievements of the company are pointed out in the area of accumulator functioning and functionality. Moreover, the company got high marks for power reserve and device durability. Samsung and Motorola occupy the 2nd place. The users’ satisfaction from using mobile devices was evaluated according to 5 criteria:

  • Appearance
  • Comfort
  • Functionality
  • Power reserve
  • Durability

The results of the study were based on the interrogation of 18453 respondents who have been using their mobile devices for over 2 years.

Kirk Parsons, senior director of wireless services at J.D. Power and Associates, claimed:

It’s not surprising that handset manufacturers and service providers are offering more cell phones with advanced features in order to increase revenue. Wireless monthly service fees and handset price points have increased as technologies and services have been added to phones, particularly those that include advanced features such as downloading and playing MP3 files or streaming video. For example, the average reported monthly wireless bill has increased $13 since 2005 to $73 in 2007.”

The study also finds that photo applications—taking, sending and receiving pictures—are particularly popular among wireless owners, as 34 percent of customers report using this feature.

Mobile Services: Pic Sender and M:AdTracker by M:Metrics

Recently the mobile operator Cellular South has lunched Pic Sender, a new service that enables the users to send the images taken with their cameraphones to their home PCs via e-mail or into web-albums.

The mobile solution has been developed in collaboration with Ontela, a mobile images technology provider. The operator wanted to offers its users an easy way to make and store images. The new service is based on the result of the national research which showed that the users are interested in the possibility of storing images from cameraphones on their PCs and favorite web-albums.

Unfortunately, the research also showed that only 24% of the respondents know how to use the option. According to Jason Jolly, users’ technology department director of Cellular South, the users simply make an image and it is automatically saved to the place set up beforehand.

M:AdTracker by M:Metrics

The analytic company M:metrics has announced the release of the new service for tracking mobile advertisement under the name M:AdTracker. The new service will monitor click-activated advertisement on mobile phones from various web-addresses and later on classify the information by the area, company and offered products/services in order to find out the leading advertisers in the market segments and in between them.

The service is already running in the States and from 2008 will be available in Europe. The recent research has showed that around 15% of US mobile users get the access to the news and other data via mobile browsers. The fact attracted the advertisers to the market and underlined the possible profit from banner ads. Until the new service was introduces there hasn’t been a way of tracking the existing variety of mobile ads in order to help advertisers plan their strategy.

Will Hodgman, president and CEO, M:Metrics, says:

“As advertisers are increasingly featuring mobile into their ad buys, they are clamoring for data about who’s advertising what, where and when. It’s thrilling to see our vision manifest, as mobile emerges as an advertising-supported medium.“

He adds:

The data collected by M:AdTracker reveals some fascinating findings about the state of the mobile advertising marketplace,” observed Hodgman. “For example, more than a dozen Fortune 100 companies are advertising on mobile, with the heaviest representation being among media companies advertising Web sites, TV shows, movies and books. The automotive, travel and leisure and financial services industries are also making investments into the mobile medium. It’s not just games and ringtones – it’s everything from iced coffee to auto insurance. Mobile is showing a speed of adoption that we are only now seeing in the Internet.”
